Methodology
As a student-led nonprofit organization, we at the DYLAN organization hold fundraisers to help organize and fund social outings and activities that provide individuals with special needs and disabilities opportunities to engage in social settings and enjoy meaningful experiences. From community events to movie nights, we curate a diverse range of activities to cater to different interests and abilities.​

Desired Impact and Plans

Through our person-centered methodology, we have witnessed incredible social transformations in the lives of individuals with special needs and disabilities. By promoting social inclusion and providing opportunities for personal growth, we aim to enhance their self-esteem, independence, and overall well-being. We firmly believe that an inclusive society benefits everyone, and our work is driven by the desire to create a more inclusive and compassionate world for all.

 

Message from Founder

I found my inspiration to create The DYLAN Organization through my older brother, Dylan Coonen, who has significant neurological and physical disabilities. Witnessing the social challenges he encountered after completing his high school programs deeply saddened me. It was apparent that there were limited opportunities for him to connect with the world outside and engage in meaningful social interactions. My brother spent much of his time confined to his room, unable to explore the vast possibilities that the world had to offer due to the limitations faced by disabled individuals like him.

 

Seeing my brother's isolation and limited social engagement day after day filled me with a sense of empathy and a burning desire to make a difference in his life and the lives of others facing similar circumstances. I realized that a change was necessary—a change that would empower individuals with special needs to break free from isolation, discover their potential, and actively participate in our local community.

 

Driven by my passion to transform the lives of individuals like Dylan, I established The DYLAN Organization. Our goal is to create a society where special needs individuals can come together, connect, and thrive. Through our organization, we provide a safe and inclusive space where individuals with disabilities can hang out, participate inaccessible activities, and actively contribute to our local community in Huntington Beach.

 

My vision for The DYLAN Organization extends beyond simply offering social outings and activities. I envision a social revolution that breaks down barriers, promotes inclusivity, and celebrates the unique abilities and contributions of individuals with special needs and disabilities. Together, we can challenge societal norms, foster understanding and acceptance, and build a world where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can fully participate and experience the joy of belonging.
